Our Legacy Project

Creating Lifelong Learning Hubs for Empowered Communities

Handouts don’t build stronger communities; education, leadership, and collaboration do. The Legacy Project is an innovative initiative by The Global Center for Change designed to revolutionize community development through future-ready learning hubs. It is designed to create future-ready community centers that empower individuals through education, digital access, sustainability, and mentorship. These centers serve as hubs of transformation, providing both students and adults with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Each center will be a thriving ecosystem where education meets mentorship, sustainability meets innovation, and individuals find a sense of belonging. From early childhood development in the mornings to after-school academic support and evening workshops for adults, these centers will be a lifeline for lifelong learning and economic empowerment. With South Africa’s social fabric still deeply fractured, this initiative aims to mend divisions by uniting communities through shared knowledge, collaboration, and self-sufficiency.

Key Project Components

  • Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program: This program offers structured learning environments for young children, fostering cognitive and emotional growth while ensuring they develop a strong sense of belonging in their communities.

  • 21st-Century Skills Training: Equipping individuals with digital literacy, problem-solving, and career-oriented skills to prepare them for university and the workforce.

  • Tutors & After-School Support: Providing structured homework assistance for students, ensuring they receive academic mentorship and guidance.

  • Adult Evening Workshops: Covering essential life skills such as financial literacy (taxes, budgeting), business development, literacy programs, and sustainability education.

  • Eco-Ready Infrastructure: Each center is designed to be environmentally sustainable, featuring solar energy, water conservation systems, and community gardens to promote food security.

  • On-the-Ground Mentorship: Unlike past initiatives that lacked long-term impact, The Legacy Project integrates ongoing mentorship to ensure lasting education and skill development.

Impact & Long-Term Vision

These projects have the potential to create lasting, transformative change by:

  • Creating a Sense of Belonging: South Africa remains fractured by historical narratives, and these centers will serve as safe spaces where people can come together to learn, grow, and rebuild a sense of unity.

  • Bridging Educational Gaps: Supporting both youth and adults in developing skills for economic independence.

  • Strengthening Communities: Creating a self-sustaining model where communities are empowered to take ownership of their future.

  • Promoting Economic Growth: Preparing individuals for higher education and workforce readiness, reducing unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship.

  • Sustainability & Food Security: Teaching communities sustainable farming while providing nutritious food options through community gardens.
